Lightning Farron, from Final Fantasy XIII, is one of my favorite video game characters, and so I knew I had to illustrate her.
Oftentimes the characters I illustrate for myself are pop culture characters that I am drawn to, and Lightning is no exception.

Every piece I illustrate teaches me something, even if in just a small amount. I learned a lot about simplicity and shading and value in this illustration. My personal art style, which is what this piece sits firmly in, is all about toothy warm textures and sharp angled lines.
I really try to focus on stripping everything down to the same language of sharp shapes and gestural linework to tell the story.
